Happy 2022 day-101! Today’s bottom up suggestion…
What if you started on the bottom and worked your way up?
Have you noticed that since you typically fill out web forms from the top down (such as name, email, phone, and finally your physical mailing address), you find yourself doing the same with #Workday UI pages?
For example, when creating a calc field, do you pause and need to come up with a name before you have even selected the Function?
Similarly, when creating a custom report, do you try to name your report before you even choose the Data Source?
Today’s idea is to start on the bottom the next time you create either of these:
– Calc Field: choose your Function first (and try entering an abbreviation such as “lrv” and press enter, instead of entering “look rel val”)
– Custom Report: visit our 2nd least favorite checkbox on your way to specifying a Data Source
You just might find that naming your Calc Field or your Custom Report will come more naturally once you have filled in the easier parts of these pages. Essentially, save the brain-thinking step of supplying the right name until after the more automatic clicking (less thinking) parts of the page.
Important Note: Sometimes in the Workday UI, you need to work top-down. This is because your selections will drive other inputs on that page. But, both of these popular pages of creating calc fields and custom reports could both be worked bottom-up because the UI will not change as you are selecting values. Give it a try.
