Happy 2022 day-083! Today’s Surprise…

We continue preparation for the 4/4 Boomerang Share-a-thon by looking closer at “Workday Studio”… did you know that you can use it to view XML, run XSLT (coming soon in this #happy2022workday sequence), and even display an HTML page in a web browser?

What does any of that have to do with writing #Workday integrations and in particular Boomerangs, and why did Workday develop all those features? Turns out Workday did not develop all these features. This all comes with the download because what you think of as “Workday Studio” is actually something called “Eclipse.”

Workday Studio (like BIRT), is actually a “plug-in” for Eclipse (stay tuned for more on that.)

Given all this power bundled with “Workday Studio”, let’s use it to learn some of the basics of XML. This “Intro to XML” journey actually starts with HTML, starting with Step (2):

  1. The #customersharingmovement is teaming up to help functional and technical users learn more about Workday Boomerang integrations (continued from yesterday’s day 82 post)
  2. Click on the File menu
  3. Click on New
  4. Click on Example (the menu File > New > Example pops up a “New Example” dialog box)
  5. Click on the XML files example (it’s the only choice), then click [ Next > ] and finally [ Finish ]
  6. An XML Examples folder now appears in your “Project Explorer” panel
  7. Notice a readme.html file was automatically opened, in…
  8. A new Web Browser tab!

That’s right, Workday Studio (well, Eclipse actually) displays web pages. Tomorrow’s day 84 picks up from right here. Meanwhile, to play along be sure to download and install Workday Studio from the Community. Feel free to comment or send me a message if any problems with the download or these steps.
