Happy 2022 day-054! (Part 2 of 2) Today’s update (continued)…

RED “2”:
Now for some fun (although many have used the word “frustration”) which begins when we go ahead and unselect the checkbox.
An orange “Alert” appears with a “!” in a yield sign. That looks serious! The message on the screen has now been updated to this:

>Clearing this check box enables you to select a non-indexed data source and non-indexed fields, which might cause your report to run slower.

Never mind the wording change from “unselect option” to “Clearing this check box” (and whether or not Indexed Data Source is capitalized), as we know what is being said. Let’s weigh the TRUE and FALSE scale again on this new message…

TRUE: Indeed, you can now select a non-indexed data source, and this “might cause your report to run slower.”
FALSE: Well, again an opportunity is lost to mention something along the lines of “… enables you to select… non-indexed fields on the Filter tab, and elsewhere.”

So much potential fun for us here on LinkedIn to add Comments on better wording of this updated message. For example, “Clearing this check box enables you to avoid people asking you why they cannot find their desired Filter fields.”

RED “3”:
This one might be the biggest for me, and I know at least a few others from this morning’s #sharingcafe are scratching their heads about this… Why in the world does selecting an “Indexed Data Source” result in that checkbox getting automatically re-checked?

Geez. Didn’t I just a few seconds ago uncheck that checkbox?

TRUE: <this line left intentionally blank>
FALSE: Unfair UI checkboxing protocols going on here. Imagine if scrolling up and down on a screen resulted in changing checkbox values. Or, for that matter, blinking! We’ve all done a double take on this one, and maybe even checked and unchecked a few times, without blinking, in hopes of understanding. At this point, just go vote for the brainstorm. Or, continue to the wrap up if you must…

RED “4”:
Look here at the “Temporary Report [ ]” checkbox. It’s unchecked by default. Hover and you see a message. (Actually, please don’t read that message. See a previous #happy2022workday post if you must, if your sides are not already hurting from laughing, or crying, or both.) So, let’s take inventory here. There are two checkboxes on this screen. Maybe I skipped the free online UI Design 101 training in exchange for some XML, XSLT and JSON training, but surely consistency is good. Maybe something different than a new checkbox, such as a drop down selection?

Let’s wrap up with some good news:
– Hooray for brainstorms!
– Hooray for social learning (when social sharing is enabled… please check by default the Weekly Wednesdays at the Sharing Café [ x ] so you can contribute and learn during free group therapy!)
– Hooray that a simple defaulted checkbox leads us all to understanding how to maybe make #workdayreporting faster via indexed stuff!
