#happy2022workday day-044
Happy 2022 day-044! Today’s update…
Today we prepare for Wednesday’s Sharing Café (2022-02-16), focused on the #workdayreporting Subfilter feature, by reviewing the Filter feature on both Simple and Advanced reports.
In a recent #happy2022workday post we (attempted to) filter workers so we only list those who are terminated. A comment mentioned a related example of listing only those who are on leave (LOA). This related topic sounds simple enough, but it might grow into a discussion of listing only those who are on a particular type of LOA such as active or inactive leaves.
A closer look at the recent Simple report helps us understand quickly that we need to move from our Simple report to an Advanced report. The desire to Subfilter (on fields in a Related Business Object) is important, but that’s just one of the reasons why a #Workday Simple report is simply too simple for practically all reporting needs:
- A Simple report has a Filter tab, but not a Subfilter tab (shown as RED item “5” on an Advanced report)
- A Simple report has one selection for And & Or, instead of having this choice on each line of the Filter (shown as RED item “6” on an Advanced report)
- There are some helpful filtering features missing in a Simple report, such as the next item…
- An Advanced report has an option for parentheses. CHALLENGE #1: Is using parentheses important or simply there for readability?
- See above item (1)
- See above item (2), but also CHALLENGE #2: What is the meaning of the value “And” shown on RED item “6” in the Advanced report, on the first line of a Filter?
CHALLENGE #3a (this one I don’t know the answer to): Why is the ‘(‘ column (and for that matter the ‘)’ column) so wide, taking up valuable screen real estate, which typically results in having to scroll horizontally when editing filters?
CHALLENGE #3b (this one I do know the answer to): Why not simply offer a checkbox for the ‘(‘ and the ‘)’ columns?
