Happy 2022 day-035! Today’s update…

“I was curious.” That was the reply during the 2/2 Workday Customer Calc Field Share-a-thon from a sharing fan as to why they tested something unexpected, such as using a negative number in a BiuLd Date (BLD) calc field, or using a 31 for the day regardless of the month.

The Build Date calc field function has now been turned into an interesting challenge (for us geeks.) Because of this “I was curious” comment, I now know the earliest date one can build using a BLD, and what happens when you subtract one day from that earliest date. I did several other geek-like experiments. Here are some:

  1. As advertised, a 31 for the day works even for February (I picked 2020 on purpose.)
  2. An Increment Decrement Date (IDD) of zero worked fine (no error.)
  3. An IDD of negative time worked fine on the earliest date allowed by a BLD (if this isn’t a “feature” then I suppose it doesn’t work fine after all.)
  4. A BLD allows for a Field Type of “Time”. Is anybody using this feature?
  5. A day of 31 works, but not 32, and for that matter not a year of -1, or a month of 13.
  6. This pic is same as item 5, but easier to see (not in edit mode.)
  7. Another pic of item 2.

Challenge (I have not yet tried this one myself): Can you create a date of Jan 1st on the year of 0?
