#happy2022workday day-029
Happy 2022 day-029! Today’s update…
First, based on Shannon‘s Report Specific CF (RSCF) post a couple of days ago, Matilda, Jen, Stacy, and Meredith recorded an impromptu RSCF round table discussion with me yesterday. Hope you like it, found here.
Continuing day-027’s discussion about determining whether or not a worker’s name has changed, yesterday’s topic was about handling changes to other fields, not just the worker’s name. Comments continue on these recent posts, revealing that this is the reason why Report Specific Calculated Fields (RSCF) was introduced many years ago.
Connectors were created soon after, for change detection, but it was too late. RSCFs were being used and thus couldn’t be removed.
Yet to be discussed is the hypothetical question of if RSCFs didn’t exist would that have pushed customers to finally focus on a System Wide (and even better, we all share and come up with some Customer Wide) Calculated Fields Naming Convention(s)? What a concept. But, I digress.
The pic shows (upper right) the dozen-1 calc field functions we have discussed so far in 2022.
Let’s take a look at how many calc fields on Dates, Text, and Numbers we have not yet discussed…
On day-015 we reviewed a predictable sorting problem when using the FoRmat Date (FRD) calc field function, because FRD results in a Text field instead of a Date field. Today we look at a picture of several Numeric, Text, and Date calc field functions and notice that all 3 types have an option to Format as well as the option to create a Constant (see bottom left of pic.)
This knocks out 5 more CF functions from the picture of those we haven’t yet discussed in these first 29 days of 2022.
For those who looked at the pic of all the CF functions and initially felt overwhelmed, how are you feeling now?
As we focus on some more Text and Date functions during these final few days before the 2/2 CF Share-a-thon (there’s still time to register), we will have covered over 3/4ths of the functions!
If you are still feeling overwhelmed by all these calc field functions, you stick around now it may show as easier on 2/2, or soon after.
