#happy2022workday day-027
Happy 2022 day-027! Today’s news…
Thank you Shannon Whitley for posting this morning the topic of “Report Specific” calculated fields (RSCF), which came up yesterday in the Sharing Café, and was discussed in the chat. While that discussion continues here on LinkedIn (see comments for link), I’d like to share the story about how this “feature” originated.
But first, we return to the non-RBO CF function types, such as Lookup Value As Of Date (LVD), which we can use to detect any changes to workers’ preferred first name.
CHALLENGE: Calculate whether or not a Worker has changed their preferred first name since a specified date using calc fields instead of placing the logic in a report filter.
CLARIFICATION: The picture shows how to use a report filter to list only the workers who have changed their preferred first name since a date prompt (defaulted to an editable January 1st of last year.)
PICTURE:
1) LVD Calc Field: The worker’s preferred first name on the date specified in the report prompt.
2) Report Filter: Is the current preferred first name different than the above item (1).
3) Report Prompt Defaults: “From Start Date” can be changed from the “Jan 1 of last year” default.
4) When the report is run, display the “From Start Date” prompt.
REMINDER:
Sometimes it is helpful to move the report filter logic into a calculated field. We explore this as we expand this example between now and 2/2, and soon focus on the topic of RSCFs in preparation for the 2/2 Calc Field Share-a-thon (see comments later today for registration link.)
